Grayling page 0811 Transcription

In the first panel, Cal is in a fairy circle in the woods. There are lots of mushrooms and little piles of rocks, and the page is spookily tinted in purple and dark teal. Cal sits in the center of the circle with his legs spread out, and he smiles up at the sky. His diary reads, "After Viv left, I went to the circle for my monthly mediation. This is how we balance our elemental energy now. If we draw the correct kind of runes. we can do it anywhere. Lem calls it an 'egregore.'" The word egregore is highlighted in orange where it appears on this page.

We get a closeup of Cal's smiling face in the second panel, with some more mushrooms, the crowns of small trees, and some neccos flying through the woods. Cal's eyes are closed. His diary reads, "This is actually something I enjoy doing! I zone out and enjoy nature."

In the third panel, there's no picture. Cal's diary continues, "Our memories are stored in the egregore, and it manages what we forget and what we remember, as well as reducing the sheer number of memories we have on account of being immortal."

In the fourth panel, we see a diagram of two Cals. On the left is a purple angry one with a crazed look on his face, his hair tousled, and vein pop symbols surrounding his head. On the right is a well-groomed, doe-eyed, sparkling Cal. An arrow is drawn from the first to the second. Cal's diary reads, "Overall, it should have the effect of making us a lot less demented. It's had a big impact already. I don't think I could have done this before."

In the fifth panel, we see Cal observing from a distance as Rae and Lem laugh together. Cal's diary reads, "But it has its down sides too."

In the last and sixth panel, we have Cal's view of the back of Lem's head, as though he is staring at it as he thinks about what he's writing. Cal's dairy continues, "I had a weird dream last night," ominously ending the page.
