Grayling page 0851 Transcription

In the first panel, the trio of siblings is seen from the front. Rae has a smug face, Lem has closed his eyes patiently, and May is smiling. They are all covered in snow and soaking wet. Rae says, "Lem was telling me about how he doesn't do his job barely at all." "Yea," Lem says. "THAT'S what I was saying."

In the second panel, Lem puffs out a big cloud of smoke, saying, "Seriously though, elementals are mere figureheads. I believe our purpose is to become obsolete." Rae looks back at him, smiling.

In the third panel, May and Rae walk side by side, with Lem following behind. May raises her eyebrow at Rae and says, "Well, we are just sentient conduits for elemental energy. We're not sure why we happened to be sentient." Lem looks satisfied, waving his mittens in front of him. "See," Lem says. "May gets it."

Rae looks amused but wary as he moves a bit ahead of May in the fourth panel. He says, "Well I for one am not interested in being 'just' a conduit, thank you." May continues to explain. "You have nothing to worry about. At least not yet," she says. "There ARE mortals interested in turning us into batteries."

Lem wryly smiles in the last and fifth panel, water dripping down his face as the snow continues to fall and melt. "Oh, yes," he says. "The anti-elemental sects from Miavra. Mienogolner. I shouldn't joke about it, because it's horrible, but there's a part o me who's kind of on board or the battery thing. If they want my job, they're welcome to it."
