Grayling page 0880 Transcription

In the first panel, we are treated to a larger view of the world Cal and Fola are wandering through. The blue sky with flecks of white and color seems to stretch infinitely in all directions, with chunks of the green and brown islands floating as unlined streaks of color in the sky. The god has seemed to develop something like wings as it leads Cal and Fola down a narrow strip of land through this abyss. Cal continues to talk. "We'll follow this spirit for now. It knows what we're here for. I'm convinced these spirits design these set pieces. Lacking a single consciousness, they can't communicate in words, but they can communicate through environments. They immediately adapted to my existence & have made progressively more inviting worlds for me to explore."

Fola looks slightly annoyed in the second panel, scratching his head in befuddlement. "Does that mean these things communicate with each other?" Fola asks. Cal looks back at him, abashed. "Sure. Why not? We do. They're just another part of the world, like us."

The gnarled back of the god is visible in the final and fifth panel, its wings and other body parts turning into inscrutable shapes as they shift and emerge from the thick blue atmosphere of the dimension. "I already consider them people," Cal continues. "They obviously serve a purpose in the system we're creating. It'd be silly to suspect them of anything untoward. For all I know, one of us MADE them and put them here."
